La Fete Fatale No. 5

La Fete Fatale No. 5

This past weekend, I once again had the pleasure of photographing the La Fete Fatale. The event was a beautiful mix of burlesque performances, stage play, and brilliantly-costumed guests, with the burlesque shows ranging from sultry, acrobatic, and comedic.

Lydia Lunch, acclaimed author, spoken word artist, trash-film actress, and general punk rock badass came to Berlin. I’d seen her once before, in LA, reading some of her spoken word pieces, but this was something entirely different. Backed by a band (the members of Gallon Drunk), she sang, bantered, heckled, and gave us a great dose of the Lydia Lunch attitude that we’d all been hoping for.

The Leningrad Cowboys – who call themselves “the worst rock ‘n roll band in the world, ever” – started out as a film. After filming The Leningrad Cowboys do America, which became a cult classic, the band stayed together and kept rocking, Finnish style. And they do rock. Despite being a cover band, which I usually despise. They’re fun. They’re full of energy. And they’re damn good musicians.

It rocked. The concert rocked. The energy rocked. Oh, and the fact that one of my favorite authors – Neil Gaiman – is her boyfriend, and kindly read us all a short story after the concert… that didn’t hurt either.
